What's Coming in Orien v6.1?
Asset Summary
As part of Orien V6.1, each Location will have the option to Export a summary of the Location's details. This export has a default template but can be customised on request. The Asset Summary contains several sections with key metrics for each section. The Sections are:
- Summary of the Asset
- Tactics
- Packaging
- OPEX
- Asset and Component Criticality
User Work Groups
Users can now be assigned work groups in Orien. Work Groups all users to only see Hierarchy Types e.g. Component/Assembly Library and they have the ability to only see a portion of Locations/Objects within Hierarchy Types.
Through this function, users can be restricted to an area of the database and only see and interact with data that's relevant to them. In the example below, the user has been restricted to the Fixed Plant area of the Working Area.
When a user is assigned to a Work Group. The Site/Database is the appended with 'restricted view' to represent that the view has some areas/items hidden.
What's Coming in Orien v5.1.5?
3D Models and Operation Flythrough
Orien can now have 3D models uploaded and connected to Tactics and Packaging. Digitally walk through the Operation's route to see any issues before it's being performed on site can significantly help safety and efficiency. Align Assets and Components to Objects in the 3D Model for a step-by-step walk through of your Operations. Identify where and how the Operation should be performed and if any additional details need to be added or considered.
The Model Viewer works with many file types - including 2D files. All these files can all be uploaded, viewed, and interacted with in the same Viewer.
View Metadata
Most records now have a View Meta Data option in the Grid Views. This shows who last changed the record, and when it was changed. This is to improve the visibility of Orien and to provide the users more power in interrogating their data. A View Metadata button is available when a single record/row is selected.
Selecting the View Metadata opens a popup modal showing:
- Who and When it was last updated
- Who and When it was initially created
This function is available on most screens. These details can be further interogated through Orien Support at support@orien.zendesk.com.
What's Coming in Orien v5.1.3?
Custom Flat File Import
Wanting to change or import data in bulk is a common function within Orien. Applying similar changes across multiple assets can be a long process. The new Custom Flat File Import makes this process significantly faster and easier.
All Hierarchy, Tactics, and Packaging Imports can be created and updated using this Import process. The Update process can be specific to a single Activity of a single component, or it can be a generic update with a single Excel row affecting multiple asset's details. This can be configured in the Flat File Mapping screen and is fully configurable by the users.
The Custom Flat File Import is designed so that a generic Flat File Excel spreadsheet can be imported on multiple data types. With a single Excel Sheet similar to Orien's All Level Tech Review can be used to import all Data Types into Orien without needing manipulation. It can:
-
- Create the Hierarchy
-
Import all Components
- This will also create the 1st Tactics revision if it doesn't exist
- Import all Failure Modes
- Import all Activities
- Allocate Activities to the Failure Mode (Repairs)
- Allocate Resources to Activities (Labours, Materials, and Custom Costs)
-
Create Operations
- This will also create the 1st Packaging Revision if it doesn't exist
-
Allocate Activities to Operations
- This will also create a sync record at each Location
- Allocate Resources to Operations (Materials and Custom Costs)
- Create and Allocate Maintenance Plan, Maintenance Items, and Task Lists
For a detailed walkthrough and explanation of the Custom Flat File Import, please read our Custom Flat File article.
What's Coming in Orien v5.1.2?
Sync Referenced Tactics
When developing Tactics for an Assembly or Component in the libraries, it's a manual process sync all instances where those tactics are used. A new function is now available when finalising Tactics which automatically Syncs Packaging where these activities are allocated to Operations.
When the Component is finalised, it will:
-
-
- Check that any referenced activities are allocated to Operations
- For those Operations, it will Sync the Packaging at the packaged location
- The Sync type (Active or Finalised) will always match the latest Sync performed
- If the Packaging is in a Finalised state, it will create a new Revision under the users' name and automatically populate the Notes field with a description
- Multiple finalisations will perform multiple syncs and will write multiple messages into the notes field
-
Custom Activities on PRT Documents
In the Document Tab, users can now add Activities to any Operation without Tactic details. Non-tactic PRT documents can now be created when required to support existing strategies. These custom Activities will appear the exact same on PRT documents and can still have important Activity details like Acceptable Limits and Conditional Comments. They also have the Location and Component as optional free-text fields meaning that they can associated to an asset or component that doesn't exist in Orien.
To Create an Activity, select the green + button between each Activity. This will open up a modal for users to add Activity data to the selected area of the Document.
These Activities are highlighted Orange to contrast the strategy-based activities in white. Orange Activities can be Edited or Deleted in the Document while White Activities must be changed in the Tactics Module and Synced.
Orange Activities can be moved and grouped the same and with strategy-based Activities. They will also appear the same in PRT exports. Bulk changes can be done via the Document Export/Import process.
What's Coming in Orien v5.1.1?
Packaging Wizard
Creating Operations, allocating Activities, setting up Series, and other packaging actions can take some time to do each step. This is where the Packaging Wizard comes in.
The Packaging Wizard is a step-by-step process which takes users through Packaging steps and requirements to produce a PRT document. The Packaging Wizard also significantly increases user efficiency through these steps by automatically creating Operations based on the Asset's Tactics.
The Packaging Wizard can only be initiated at the start of a new revision. If the packaging wizard is cancelled midway through, the Location then reverts to the latest finalised revision. This prevents the Packaging Wizard from permanently changing data as it can always be discarded.
Users can define specific templates for even faster Operation development and as a way to standardise naming conventions. In the Packaging Config, users can create a template that defines the following:
-
-
- Naming Convention
- The order in which Operation Values are shown
- {Interval}{Unit} {Constraint} {Labour} {Type} -> 12W Offline Mechanic Inspection
- Replacement values
- Replace every instance of a value with another
- Calendar Weeks -> W
- Mechanic -> Mech
- Replace every instance of a value with another
- Naming Convention
-
-
-
- Set Consider/Exclusion values
- Ensure that all appropriate values are considered or excluded when deciding what creates an operation. When a template is selected, the Consider/Exclusion values are locked to what's defined in the template.
- Set Consider/Exclusion values
-
User Management
Orien now contains a User Management module. This enables a selected user or users to add, manage, and delete other users. This option is available on each database, enabling each to have their own dedicated User Manager.
An Export and Import option is also available for larger changes. Orien has a set list of roles that are available to be allocated but if customisations are required, contact Orien Support support@orien.zendesk.com.
Component and Assembly Library Hierarchy Import improvements
The Hierarchy exports for the Component and Assembly Libraries have had an update. Folders and Components/Assemblies can now be created, edited, and moved in bulk. These exports function similar to the other Hierarchy exports except:
-
-
- Components/Assemblies cannot be deleted if they are referenced
- Components/Assemblies cannot be a parent to another Component/Assembly
-
What's Coming in Orien v5?
Document Management System
Orien now has a Document Management System. Users can upload files and store files in their current database or use other company files between databases. These files can then be allocated to multiple locations, across multiple sites, and records revisions for each time it's changed.
Note
This change has been incorporated into existing modules and therefore Images and Generated Documents have been renamed to Files and File Storage respectively.
Orien is designed to store files such as OEMs, Safety Procedures, Business Standardisation documents but it can host any file if it's one of the following file types:
-
-
- Microsoft Word (.doc & .docx)
- PDFs (.pdf)
- PowerPoint (.pptx)
- Excel (.xslx)
- CSV (.csv)
-
Folders can be defined for the DMS to help group and manage file allocations on each asset. These folders can be defined as mandatory when a technical or supporting document is required. Also, a Max Limit can be defined per Folder to restrict uploads.
Alternatively, a File Type Custom Field can be defined in compatible modules. This can be helpful when wanting to assign a supporting file to a specific object e.g. Activity, Failure Mode, Operation within Orien.
Note
This requires configuration from the Orien Development Team. Please contact support@orien.zendesk.com for support.
ArcGIS Integration
Know where your assets are and report on assets by location.
We've integrated with ArcGIS, allowing Orien data to be shown in ArcGIS and changes to assets in ArcGIS to be shown in Orien. This integration can be established on existing Orien or ArcGIS instances or configured for new projects.
Changes to various Orien modules automatically update ArcGIS with a refreshed summary. Changes made to Location Details, finalising a Tactics or Packaging revision, or generating a budget. Changes made to the position of the asset in ArcGIS, also updates the Longitude and Latitude of the asset in Orien.
Custom Field Improvements
We've upgraded our Custom Field capabilities to include different types of data types. We've added the following Custom Field Types:
-
-
- File Types
- Upload a file for a specific Custom Field Value
- Date Types
- Use a Calendar to assign a date value through a custom field
- Number Types
- Restrict a Custom Field value to numbers exclusively
- Boolean Type
- Restrict a Custom Field to True or False only
- Concatenate Field
- Refer to another field and add text before or after the referred value. This functions similar to a CONCAT function where the custom field value inherits it's value from another value + a some custom text
- File Types
-
Emissions Dashboard, Screen Design, Formulas, and Emission Activities
We've updated Orien's Emission Forecasting capabilities to have the following:
-
-
-
Define formulas to calculate Emissions which can use custom user input values, system values, and other formulas
- Consider specific emission calculations and input values unique to each asset e.g. Western Climate Initiative or asset-specific Water/Power ratings
- Define Activities and each Activity's available Emission Formulas to simplify using Orien when allocating many different emission sources
-
A new Orien Emissions dashboard and tree structure for greater visibility and understanding of the data
- View each Allocated Emission, their scope, and their interval easily
- A summarised dashboard showing multiple assets and the annual emissions and associated costs
-
Define formulas to calculate Emissions which can use custom user input values, system values, and other formulas
-
What's Coming in Orien v4.1.2?
Package Working Revision Tactics
Orien now has the function to package working Revision Tactics regardless of where the tactics are stored (Component Library, Assembly Library, the current Location, or a child Location). This function aims to improve the efficiency of strategy development in Orien by being able to work on package your tactics as they're developed.
On Packaging's Sync tab, there is now a new button enabling the Syncing of Active Revisions. Each Active Sync has an Orange symbol attached to show that it's an Active Revision. Finalised Syncs don't have a symbol. There are small tool tips when hovered to help users understand the button functions.
Note
Active refers to the 'Latest' whether the tactics are in a finalised or working state.
As Syncs can contain data from the Component Library and Assembly Library, this sync can contain Working Revision Tactics from the libraries. Please use caution when syncing active revision from various sources. The Finalised Sync can be run at anytime to ensure that the activities/changes are approved/correct.
Note
When an Active Sync is run, working activities are packaged, and then removed by a Finalised Sync, Orien will retain the packaging allocations and document ordering associated with that removed activity.
Audit Reports
Orien now has Audit reports, enabling database-level reports to be run. These are targeted identifying changes across the entire database and configs. Orien V4.1.2 contains the following reports by default:
-
-
- Audit Component Library Revisions
- Audit Labours
- Audit Materials
- Audit Packaging Revisions
- Audit Structure Revisions
-
These Reports show what's changed within the past year. Identifying when it was created, when it was last changed, who has last changed it, and if it's been deleted. This provides users more capability to interrogate their data and visibility of user activity.
Orien V4 - what's new?
Infrastructure upgrades and visual changes
Orien V4 is a major release and contains several infrastructure changes. These changes are important to keep Orien running on the latest systems and best practices. We've decided to release a new Major version to keep all infrastructure changes together and to make it easier to manage what's released when. We aim to release a new version once a year to make it easy to understand what's released when - V4 = 2024.
When using Orien V4, there will be improvements to general interactions and styling. These are all due to the infrastructure upgrades and continual improvement of Orien.
Alongside User Experience, these infrastructure upgrades bring in improvements to our security. There will be no changes to users and their usage of Orien - only background improvements. V4 does contain several enhancements and new functions.
Production Calculator
When creating strategies for an asset, it's important to know when a certain production milestone is hit or what the production will be at a specific date. To help with this process, Orien now has a Production Calculator. This function is found in Measurement's Production Allocations tab. Select the production you want to calculate and then select Calculate Production.
Once selected, you'll be able to calculate the date when specific Production value is met. Or provide a date to calculate the production of that date.
Queue Visualiser
Users can now identify what is in Orien's processing queue (what jobs are waiting to be processed). Orien can only process a set number of jobs at a single time, those that aren't being processed are placed in a Queue. Once a previous job has been completed, the next in the queue is then being processed.
This is stored at the Config Level and is called View Queue. There are 3 types of Queues in Orien:
-
-
- Opex - when a budget is generated
- Core Jobs - General Orien processes, exports, and imports
- Reporting Jobs - when a report is requested
-
Each of the jobs are given an Order - showing their place in the queue, the type of Job (OPEX, Core, Reporting), the Description of the Job, and who started the Job. Alongside viewing the Queue, Admin or Super Users can remove jobs from a Queue. This provides the ability to Skip Jobs if incorrect Jobs were requested.
Note
Note that the Queue Visualiser only shows Jobs awaiting processing and not those currently being processed. Jobs currently being processed cannot be Skipped.
Export from any Tactics or Packaging Revision
A core feature of Orien is the viewing and comparison of previous Tactics and Packaging revisions. We've enabled exports of any revision for Tactics and Packaging for any location. This enables manual comparisons to be run or extraction of previous data more easily. To run these exports, simply view the Tactics or Packaging revision you want to export in their module, and then select export.
A warning is shown to users to notify them that they are looking at a previous revision. Select the Export you want to do, and then select Start Export.
Note
Note that these files cannot be imported since they are on a previous revision. Previous revision data cannot be changed.
Packaging User Experience Improvements
Several changes have been made to the Orien's Packaging tab to improve its navigation and experience. Firstly, a Search has been added to Task List Builder to help identify any Packaging object (Maintenance Plan, Maintenance Item, Task List, or Operation) wherever it appears on the screen. This also include High-Level or Assembly Packaging details. The search will show the wanted object and its details.
On referenced or High-Level packaging objects, a View Packaging button is available. This will automatically navigate the user to where this object is stored - and highlight it.
The operation is also automatically select when the Task List Builder hyperlink on Packaging grids is used:
These general improvements help with identifying and locating the source of packaging detail at your site.
Replace Material and Labour Values
Orien now has the function to replace Materials and Labours. This replace function combines material records to a single value. Instead of changing Material or Labour allocations at each instance where they are used, simply combine them at the config and all instances where it's been used will be changed.
Note
Note that this will only change Finalised and Working State Tactics and Packaging Revisions.
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.12?
Tactics Structure Redesign
The Tactics Structure screen has been improved. With all of the same functions and some additional ones. The Component Structure is now smaller but still easy to read and navigate.
When the asset description is selected, there are now metrics for your asset showing 3 different areas:
-
-
- A breakdown of Strategy Types and Activity Types
- The total Number of Components, Failure Modes, and Activities
- The highest costing Activities and if they are budgeted
-
An example is below:
The Component Structure now has a search function which shows automatically selects the component in the hierarchy. If there are multiple components that match the search, it can be searched again to navigate to the next component.
When a component is selected, it will show its details on the right-hand side. The associated Make, Model, comments, or custom fields. If it is a referenced component, it will also show the details associated to the referenced component:
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.10?
Revision Status Colours
Tactic Revisions, Packaging Revisions, and Referenced Components now have colour indicators showing their Revision Status. Orange represents a Working Revision and Green represents a finalised Revision. The following screenshot shows an Asset with the following:
-
-
- A Component Created on the asset and not stored in the Component Library (Blue)
- A Working State Component Reference from the Component Library (Orange)
- A Finalised Component Reference from the Component Library (Green)
-
Note
Note that the Assembly Asset's Tactics are in a Finalised State (Green Tactics symbol) and that it has a Working Reference Component. Referenced Component Tactics can change regardless of where it's referenced.
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.8?
CMMS Exporter
Orien can now have customised CMMS exports for your CMMS systems to Excel. Simply export your packaging datafrom Orien in the correct format and upload it straight into your CMMS. These can be customised using various functions; such as:
-
-
- Customised Styling of Excel file
- Incremental Naming of Operations/Task Lists
- Concatenation of Orien fields
- Rich Text (bold, underline, Font)
- Column/Row styling and sizing
- Cell Styling and sizing
- Translatable values based on the User's language preference
-
This streamlines data uploads from Orien to your CMMS systems. Customise your upload sheets to your specific naming conventions, column ordering and naming, with basic data manipulation.
For a enquiries about the custom CMMS Exporter, please contact Orien support at support@orien.zendesk.com.
Pinning
You can now Pin key actions in Orien. Pinning lets you keep an eye on various background processes that you might have running. Track your exports and action them when they're ready across multiple databases/sites.
Available Pin Types:
-
-
- Links - Stores your current screen for quick navigation
- Import - Provides updates on your import and apply the import when it's validated
- Export - Provides updates on your export and to quickly download it
- Sync - Pin background processes like Cleanses or Validations
- OPEX - Get updates on your OPEX generations with a progress and link to quickly navigate to it
-
When actions are pinned, actions can be performed on them through the Pinned Items tab. For example, I've pinned an Import below:
If the Import has been validated successfully, the option to Import is available. The import can be run from Pinned Items and continually updated with its progress. To know what each button does, simply hover over it for a Tool Tip.
Pins are automatically updated every 20 seconds so there's no need to consistently reload it. Pin long-running process and continue to use Orien and then action them when they're ready.
Improved Filtering in Operation Activities and All Activities screens
We've improved the design and usability of the All Activities and Operation Activities filters. We've added filtering capabilities to search for allow for the searches to Consider Referenced, Packaging, High-Level Packaging, and Lower-Level Packaging.
All 3 of these filters can be used separately. If they are used at the same time, the search considers both. For Example, if Consider Referenced Packaging and Consider Parent Packaging are used together, the search will consider the following activities:
-
-
- Those on the current asset's Referenced Packaging
- Those on allocated at the higher level - Parent or Higher
- Referenced Activities at the higher level - Parent or Higher
-
Added Component Referencing and High-Level capability to Tactics' Component Export and Import
We've improved the Component Export with several changes:
-
-
- Create Referenced Components via Import
- High-Level Export and Import of Components, Folders, and Referenced Components
- External Hierarchy and Working Area only
- Convert between Components and Folders
-
Component Exports will now have a 2nd Sheet containing all Components the Component Library. When you want to create a referenced component; add the Token to the Component Library Token column and set the Type as Reference.
We have prepopulated the Reference Description Column with an formula to show the Library Description to help identify your referenced Components. Simply drag the formula down to apply it to new rows. This is also available on the High Level Export and Import.
Additional APIs for Location Details, Criticality, Tactics, and Location Summaries
We've added some new APIs to Orien enabling those with an API key and Database access to easily pull data from Orien. These APIs aim to improve user's abilities to view their Orien data easily - outside of Orien. For technical details once it's release, view https://au.orien.app/api-docs/.
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.6?
Additional OPEX fields
Users can now define additional fields to be included in OPEX generations and OPEX Reports. In the Budget Config, there's a new option called Additional OPEX:
Once selected, there will be 20 fields available. Each of these can be mapped to a specific field. Users can define a custom description for that field which the values will be shown as in the OPEX reports.
The following fields are available within the Additional OPEX Module:
-
-
- Location Category
- Location Cost Center
- Location Custom Fields
- Meter Reading Custom Fields
-
The available fields aim to be expanded on in the future. If you have suggested fields, please send them to support@orien.zendesk.com.
Production Allocation Grid
In the Measurements Module, there is a new Tab available called Production Allocations. This grid shows the Production Forecast applied to the currently selected location and all locations below. The tab shows the most relevant production applied to the location. If a Production is allocated to a Parent Location, its production is used at all child Locations. If a Production is closer to the location or on the location itself, that production is prioritised for the child.
An export/Import is also available through this screen. The Export is a matrix of Locations vs Production Units. Defined Productions are defined as a dropdown under each Unit column.
The export only shows Productions allocated to that Location.
On the Right-hand side Production Allocations tab you can view and edit that specific Production's Future Forecast. This allows for small adjustments to be easily made.
If major changes are wanted to be made across many Productions this can be done in the Production Config.
Bill of Materials Report
We've added a Bill of Materials Report to Orien. It shows a single row for the materials used at the selected asset/location and below's Tactics and Packaging. This is a great report for identifying the currently used materials for an asset/location when updating existing tactics.
It shows all of the core Material columns alongside other details e.g. Manufacturer and Supplier
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.4?
Full Data Grid - Quick CSV Export
With the Full Data Grid being released and available, we've had a look at it's potential functionality and have implemented Quick CSV Exports to the Grid. This enables users to quickly export the data they're currently looking at. This includes applied filters, sorting, and column ordering. Getting you what you want quickly. This can't be imported back to Orien as it won't contain the necessary tokens or the appropriate system-specific headings required for import and data alteration.
What's Coming in Orien v3.10.3?
Full Data Grid - Filter and Sort on Orien Grids
The Full Data Grid is being released to all users in this release. We're confident that it will provide significant improvements to the usability and visibility of your Orien data. It is provided as an additional option to your existing views. Simply change your Display Options to the Full Data Grid to use it.
Note
The Full Data Grid has been internally tested and we are confident in its stability. It's given a Beta tag as there may be some small bugs and issues when being used. Please contact support@orien.zendesk.com with any issues.
The Full Data Grid lets users filter using multiple Criteria and sort multiple columns. These criteria change depending on the data you've selected. Filters aren't available for Date values but they can be sorted.
Text Fields:
Text Filtering lets users select up to 2 Criteria with AND/OR operators across various Criteria. The available Criterias are:
-
-
- Contains
- Not Contains
- Equals
- Not Equals
- Starts With
- Ends With
- Blank
- Not Blank
-
The below example is a the search for any location description Containing 'Pump' and does Not Contain 'Water'.
Note
The Full Data Grid Filters are not case-sensitive.
Number Fields:
On number fields Number-Specific Criterias will be available. Like Text Fields, 2 Criteria are available to be selected. The available Criterias are:
-
-
- Equals
- Not Equal
- Less Than
- Less than or equals
- Greater Than
- Greater Than or equals
- In range
- This will provide an upper limit and a lower limit
- Blank
- Not Blank
-
For Orien to filter and sort on all of your selected data, all of the selected data will need to be loaded first. When large grids are selected, a progress message is shown which updates for every 1000 records loaded.
At 10000 records onwards, we show a note that this is a large amount of data attempted to be loaded.
Note
The Search and Advanced Search options can be used to filter the data before the grid loads.
Multi-Column Sorting:
The Full Data Grid also enables users to filter their data using multiple columns. Users can filter their data by Ascending or Descending values by selecting the column header/name. The upwards arrow (↑) means Ascending and the downwards arrow (↓) means Descending.
Once one column has been filtered, hold Shift and select the next column. Number values will now be shown in the column. This number is the Priority of Ordering where 1 is the highest priority. Continue holding shift to change 2nd column to either Ascending or Descending. Once it's to your preference, continue holding shift and select the next column. Continue this process for all the columns you want to sort by.
Validations in the Approval Process
Orien now has the function to run validations as part of the Approval Process. This means that a site can create their custom validations which can be required to finalise their Tactics or Packaging data. This process can be blended with Approver Based Steps as well. For more details on the Validation Module or Approvals Config, please view their Articles here: Validation Module Article and Module Configuration.
The following Approval process is as follows:
Step 1:
The Validation called Required Operation Contraint and Required Operation Labour will be run on the requested Packaging Revision. If any of these validations fail e.g. An Operation doesn't have a Labour allocated. The Finalisation request will be rejected and notes will be provided to the Requester. If the Validations pass, it will then proceed to Step 2.
Step 2:
A request will be sent to a user for approval. If the allocated user/s e.g. site.manager@company.com approves, then it will be finalised. If it's rejected it will fall back into a Working State.
Unique System Value Validation
Orien now has a validation which detects duplicate Values across all locations. This prevents revisions in Finalised or Revisions currently in the Approval from having the same value - focused on External System IDs for Integrations. Below in an example of how it could be configured in the Validation Module.
Note
Only Operation Custom Fields are currently available for this Validation.
Operation Align Allocated Resources
A new function is available for Operations called Align Allocated Resources. This function will match the Materials, Labour Work, Labour Personnel required, and Custom Costs Details found on allocated activities of an Operation itself. This function can be run on one or more Operation at a time.
An option is available for the Operation's Materials or Custom Costs not found in its activities to be removed from the Operation.
Key Notes:
-
-
- Materials and Custom Costs will be allocated to the Operation with the same values as those found on the Operation's allocated Activities.
- If Labour, Materials, or Custom Costs are already allocated, their values will be updated to match the total Activity values.
- The Labour Work and Personnel required will only match the allocated Labour's values and not the sum of all Labours in the Operation.
-
Restricted Tactics Revisions and Contributos
Tactics revisions can now be 'Restricted' to so only yourself or selected users can edit the selected Tactics Revision. This is available on any Tactics Location in Orien including the Component Library. The option to Restrict revisions will be available when Tactics are created on a Location, when the revision is created, and anytime while the revision is in a Working State.
When creating a new Asset, Create New Restricted will enable tactics on the selected location - only editable by yourself.
When creating a new revision on an existing Tactics Structure, the option of a Restricted Revision will be available.
If the Revision needs to be Restricted once it was already created, the Revision can be Edited and Restricted. All previous changes made to this revision will be retained - made by yourself or another user.
Contributors can be added to Restricted Revisions. Once they are added to the Restricted Revision, they will be able to edit Tactics data for that Revision. Additionally, they be granted permissions to Discard or Finalise the revision.
If the user no longer requires editing permission to that Tactics Revision, then they can be Deactiviated. This removes their editing access from the Tactic Revision and are shown as 'Deactivated' in the Contributors list as they were still able to make changes at some point of the Revision.
Note
A User can only access that Tactics revision if they have access to the database. A User must have edit permissions on the database to edit a restricted revision.
What's Coming in Orien v3.10?
Validation Module
The Validation Module enables customised Validations to be created and run on your assets. Validations can be created in the Validation Config and applied to selected location structures, or to all locations.
Common Validation Example - Conditional Requirement
Conditional Requirements verify if this exists or is present then this field is required.
In the example below, if an Activity has an Offline Constraint, then Access Time Hours is Required.
Note
Offline Activities are activities to be performed when the asset isn't running. Access Time Hours is the total time in Hours that the asset will be offline.
Validations can then be run on each Location. If any data doesn't succeed in the Validation, Validation has a Red Cross shown, and the number of Violations for that Validation are shown.
Select View Violations on this screen to see all Violations and a URL to the violation. Violations can also be exported to excel with an URL to the Violation.
There are several types of Validations available, view the Validation Module Article for more details and examples.

What's Coming in Orien v3.8.13?
Improved Budget Generation and Filtering
There were multiple changes to the Budget Generation Module to improve its usability. These changes are:
-
-
- Generate budgets on the most recent Tactics and Packaging data - regardless of revision status
- Generate budgets for only stale locations (Non generated locations, Stale, and Errors)
- Added a screen filter on Generation status (Total, Completed, Stale, Failed)
-
Improved Approvals Configuration
Customised Approvals can now be configured for a specific location structure. This enables different structures to have different approvers and approval processes - or none at all. Define an approval process for a location and all assets beneath it will have the same approval process.
Approval Configuration:
Asset beneath the defined approval location:
Asset in different structures:
If there's a dedicated structure that requires its own approvals configuration within an existing approval process, a second approvals configuration can be applied to that sub-structure. Approvals will follow the closest configuration to the asset per approval type (Component Library, Tactics, or Packaging).
Applying Approvals to all locations:
If a global approval process is still wanted, keeping the location field blank will apply that approval process to all locations. A placeholder for the Database name will be applied to the Location column for clarity.
Added Component Ordering
Components and Folders in the Tactics module can now be ordered. A Sort Field is now available and can be added through the Tactics screen or through Tactics Exports/Imports.
Once a Sort position has been defined, they can be moved through Orien's interface by expanding the options on the Component or Folder and moving them up or down.
Activity Acceptable Limits and Conditional Comments viewable for Data Capture
When allocating Data Capture Definitions to Activities, the activities' defined Acceptable Limits and Conditional Comments are now viewable in Orien and in the Data Capture Export.

SAP Integration & External Hierarchy
Functional Locations
Orien V3.8 brings a new Hierarchy called the External Hierarchy. External Hierarchy has all the same functions and capability as the existing Working Area but can contain SAP FLOC and Equipment from an Integrated SAP source. There are additional features to merge your current structure to a live version of your SAP FLOC Structure. The video below showcases the process:
SAP Equipment
SAP Equipment can then be mapped to Orien Components. SAP Measuring Points and Measurement Documents allocated to that Equipment can then update the Component Last Replace date and Meter Reading Data allocated to the equipment - ensuring the most up-to-date data for budgeting. For more details, view SAP External Hierarchy
SAP Materials
SAP Materials can now be imported into Orien's existing Materials configuration, updating Orien materials that exist in both systems. Providing accurate and up-to-date data from SAP. For more details, view SAP External Hierarchy
SAP Work Centres
SAP Work Centres are now available in be connected in Orien and allocated to Orien Labours to help with alignment of costs and resources:
For more information, view SAP External Hierarchy
Currency
Orien can now handle multiple currencies and convert them to a designated Currency type and value. This will be generated and shown for related areas (Budget Generation and Spares Analysis):
Place Multiple Components into a Working State
New revisions of components of a location can now be created easily. They can be automatically created when opening a new revision of the asset, and while an asset's Tactic's revision is already in a Working State by selecting the Other Actions Dropdown.
Cleanse Unallocated Activities
Activities not used in Failure Modes can be unwanted. To help clean up strategies, you can now cleanse all non-strategic activities from non-finalised components easily. To do so, select Tactics -> Other Actions -> Cleanse Activities like the image below:
Image Scaling
Images can now be scaled to suit the need of the activity or asset. When uploading an image, you can shrink or enlarge the image by changing the percentage of the assigned image.
Packaging - Redundant Filter
When viewing Packaging's All Activities or Operation Activities tabs, you can now filter to only show activities that are allocated to redundant failure modes.
High-Level Operation Material Export
Operation Materials can now be viewed, exported, and imported at a high level. This enables mass allocation and deletion of materials allocated to Operations.
High-Level Operation Custom Cost Export
Operation Custom Costs can now be viewed, exported, and imported at a high level. This enables mass allocation and deletion of Custom Costs allocated to Operations.
Propagation Including Groups
Applying Activity Propagation to the highest interval of a packaging series now applies the same activity grouping to lower interval operation.
